  • Make sure the exterior of your business premises is well-maintained. A build-up of rubbish or graffiti on the walls will give the impression that you don’t take security seriously, increasing the likelihood that you’ll be targeted by criminals.
  • Take time to identify any areas which may be vulnerable to forced entry. it’s important to make such areas more secure; whether by fitting robust locks and/or installing security lighting.
  • Service doors should be kept locked and secure when not in use.
  • Make sure the exterior of your building is illuminated by security lighting. Not only does this make it harder for thieves to hide under the cover of darkness, it also provides additional protection for vulnerable areas such as loading bays.
  • Don’t store wheelie bins or council waste bins close to your business premises as they can be climbed on to gain access.
  • If you don’t have a security alarm install one. If you have an alarm, make sure it is regularly serviced and professionally maintained.
  • Install CCTV: this provides unbeatable protection and a highly visible deterrent. If you already have a CCTV system, make sure cameras are correctly positioned. If your CCTV system is old and outdated, why not consider installing a new system with facial recognition?
